'The Compleat Draughts Player' is a general book for the draughts player. It covers the history of the game, the rules, fundamental theory, winning ideas for beginners, the theory of the move and its changes, the seven basic endgame positions, model games in the principal openings, traps in openings, a selection of brilliant games, problems and endings, and biographical and anecdotal material about masters of the game.
Would obviously be very useful to those just starting out, but will also prove most helpful for those wishing to take the game a lot more seriously.
Irving Chernev was a well respected author of chess books and this book reflects that.
316 pages. Published in 1981 [1st edition & out of print] by Oxford University Press. ISBN 0-19-217587-4. [Approx 20.5 x 13.5 x 1.8cms & 435g]
It is in very good condition with all pages clean and tightly bound. The only things of note would be the residue of a price sticker on front of cover [you may be able to remove it], a small crease at lower spine, and very minor wear consistent with being kept safe in a bookcase.
I know the price seems exorbitant for such an unassuming little book, but if you try to find it elsewhere online you will quickly realise that is actually at the lowest end of the prices being asked, especially considering its condition.
